All About Los Cabos

Brandon and Catherine have been visiting Cabo every February since they started dating (and for that hurricane that one September—thanks Kyle!).

Why We Love Cabo

What to Expect

There are two Cabos—Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. Together, they make up the southernmost point of the Baja California peninsula, and if you come for the wedding (and remain conscious for the majority of it), you’ll get to experience both.

February is Cabo’s coldest month. Don’t worry, that’s a good thing! The weather is warm and sunny—think high 70s and clear skies.

February is also peak season for spotting whales that have migrated south to have their babies. If you’re lucky, you’ll get to see them learning to breach! If you want to learn more, ask Brandon. He’s dying to tell you!

Getting to Cabo and Getting Around

Everyone will fly into SJD, and Ubers are not allowed at International Arrivals. A taxi runs about $50 and you can pay cash (pesos or USD) or card. Lots of you might be coming in on the same flights, so we can arrange group transportation closer to the date for those interested. As soon as you have your flights booked, please send them to Catherine. The airport has great vibes with lots of bars and restaurants for anyone waiting.

Everyone will be able to Uber back to the airport at the end of the trip.

Cabo is in Mexico, so Spanish is the official language and Mexican Pesos are the currency. It’s also touristy, so you’ll find that USD and English get you far. Most places will accept card—always pay in pesos when paying on a credit card for the best conversion rate.

Tipping is expected in Cabo, as the tourism is heavily US-based, so we advise having some small bills on you all weekend.

San Jose del Cabo

San Jose del Cabo is a picturesque, artsy town (maybe we’ve mentioned that?). You’ll see lots of San Jose del Cabo on Thursday and Saturday (and maybe Sunday, depending on your departure flight times). The town is walkable and all of our favorite sites are close to Drift Hotel.

Some of the places you’ll see:

  • Drift Hotel - We hope you’ll all stay here with us, but even if you don’t, you can expect to spend lots of time here.

  • The Art Walk - Plan to get in early enough on Thursday to see the fantastic art and enjoy the atmosphere of Plaza Mijares!

  • Baja Brewing - Beer lovers will enjoy this brewery and its laid back vibes.

  • Garage - The rooftop here has great views of Plaza Mijares (the site of the Art Walk).

  • Jazmin’s - We love the food and drinks here, and we highly recommend for brunch or dinner.

  • The Churro Cart - The perfect dessert, and probably Brandon’s favorite thing in town.

Cabo San Lucas

Cabo San Lucas is the bigger, louder, more touristy town in Los Cabos. Friday’s boat tour will leave from the marina in Cabo San Lucas, and we’ll be back at 3 pm to explore the bars and restaurants. While everyone is welcome to explore Cabo San Lucas however they please, we’ll be hitting up our favorite spots.

Some of those favorite spots include:

  • Happy Endings - We like to start with mango shots.

  • San Patricio Irish Bar - If you’re looking for Brandon, there’s a good chance you’ll find him here. Sorry KT and Maithy….Murphy’s is not on tap.

  • Monkey Business - A great stop if you can’t make it more than a few yards without a drink (no judgment).

We won’t host a formal dinner on Friday night, but there are lots of places to stop for a bite while we make our way through downtown Cabo. We suggest Tacos Guss, but there will be no shortage of places to eat—or hungry people!

It’s not just us…lots of the people we love love Cabo!
